Welcome to the official website for Benton Charter Township. Established in 1830, early settlers' determination and foresight were instrumental in the development of the area. Benton Charter Township is named after U.S. Senator Thomas Benton (of Missouri) and was officially incorporated on March 11, 1837.
Benton Charter Township is located in Berrien County in Southwest Michigan between the sunset shores of the tall bluffs of Lake Michigan and the St. Joseph river on it's southern boundary, wrapping around the city of Benton Harbor. The diversity of the area is seen in its small towns, quiet rural areas, commercial development, in the industrial centers, and in it's agricultural roots. The area boasts some of the best orchards and grape vineyards in the United States. The I-94 Detroit-Chicago Corridor runs through the township, providing easy access to the area including the industrial centers, shopping, eateries, and motels for your convenience.
Like the community it represents, this site has much to offer as it is developed. Feel free to stop by often!
