PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE - 5/19/2026 ON PROPOSED WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS

PROJECT PLANNING PUBLIC MEETING: Water System Improvements

Benton Charter Township will hold a public meeting on proposed drinking water system improvements for the purpose of receiving comments from interested persons.

The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Benton Township offices located at 1725 Territorial Road, Benton Harbor, MI 49022

The purpose of the meeting is to review an application for funding for three proposed projects:

1. Install approximately 800 feet of 12-inch diameter water main underneath I-94 to provide looping to the Sodus Township Service area.

2. Construct a second ground storage reservoir at the Water Treatment Plant to provide reliability. Also construct a security fence with vehicle gates to restrict site access, and complete the paved driveway.

3. Install approximately 6,000 feet of 8-inch diameter water main in Higman Park to replace aging water main.

The estimated cost to users for the proposed project will be $5.07 per residential equivalent user per month. The Township would intend to cover loan payments for the project under it's currently adopted rate plan. In addition, potential funding through the DWSRF is likely to reduce cost burden to the users due to anticipated financing terms.
